Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park

Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park is situated on the southern coast of Kenya near Shimoni and south of Wasini Island in Kwale District near the Tanzanian border. Kisite park covers 11 square kilometres while Mpunguti reserve covers 28 square kilometres.

Shimba Hills National Reserve

The Shimba Hills National Reserve is a small National Park in the Coast Province of Kenya, 33 km from Mombasa and 15 km from the coast. The reserve is an area of coastal rainforest, woodland and grassland. It is an important area for plant biodiversity – over 50% of the 159 rare plants in Kenya are found in the Shimba Hills, including some endangered species of cycad and orchids. It is also a nationally important site for birds and butterflies.

Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary

Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary (MES) is a community-owned elephant park, a conservation area for elephants, in the Coast Province of Kenya, in the Kwale district. It is located 45 km southwest of Mombasa and is adjacent to the Shimba Hills National Reserve. The sanctuary was formed in the early 1990s as a cooperative project between the people of the surrounding Mwaluganje community, United States Agency for International Development, and the Born Free Foundation and the Eden Wildlife
Trust.

Samburu National Reserve

The Samburu National Reserve is located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro river in Kenya; on the other side of the river is the Buffalo Springs National Reserve in Northern Kenya. It is 165 km² in size and 350 kilometers from Nairobi. Geographically, it is located in Samburu District of the Rift Valley Province.

Kakamega Forest

Kakamega Forest is situated in Western Province Kenya, north-west of the capital Nairobi, and near to the border with Uganda. It is said to be Kenya’s last remnant of the ancient Guineo-Congolian rainforest that once spanned the continent.

Boni National Reserve

The Boni National Reserve is a national reserve for conservation and lies in the North Eastern Province of Kenya in the Ijara District. The reserve covers an area of over 1200 km2 and is managed by the Kenyan Wildlife Service. It was gazetted in 1976 as a dry season sanctuary for elephants in Ijara District, Lamu District and Somalia. Unfortunately, elephant population has been greatly reduced by poaching.

Arawale National Reserve

The Arawale National Reserve is a designated conservation area managed by the Garissa County in assistance with the Kenyan Wildlife Service. It lies in North Eastern Province of Kenya, 77 km south of the town of Garissa. The reserve covers an area of 450 km2. To the west, it is bordered by the Tana River and, to the east, by the Garissa-Lamu road.

Mount Elgon National Park

Mount Elgon National Park is located on the North Eastern side of the mountain, which is also Kenya’s second highest mountain. It was created in 1968, and lies right on the Ugandan border. Uganda has participated in protecting the side of the mountain which lies in Uganda.

Mount Kenya National Park

Mount Kenya National Park ( 0°07?26?S, 37°20?12?E), established in 1949, protects the region surrounding Mount Kenya. Initially is was a forest reserve before being announced as a national park. Currently the national park is within the forest reserve which encircles it. In April 1978 the area was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The national park and the forest reserve, combined, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

Meru National Park

Meru National Park is a Kenyan forest reserve located east of Meru, 350 km from Nairobi. Covering an area of 87,044 hectares, it is one the lesser known parks of Kenya. It has abundant rainfall, 635-762 mm in the west of the park and 305-356 mm in the east. The rainfall results in tall grass and lush swamps, which make it difficult to spot game. It has a wide range of wild beasts like elephant, hippopotamus, lion, leopard, cheetah, black rhinoceros and some rare antelopes.
